- Does the sale of my taxes mean I'm losing my
home? You risk losing your home only if you do not buy back
("redeem") your taxes plus all the accumulated fees and interest
within thirty months of the date the taxes were sold on a
single-family residence. If the amount owed is not paid in full by the
thirty-month deadline, the tax buyer can petition
for the deed to the property.
|
- Does the sale of my taxes harm my credit
rating? No, the sale of taxes is not reported to
credit agencies.

- What if I'm having financial trouble? Click

which provide free expert advice on money management and
foreclosure prevention and in some cases may be able to provide
financial assistance to qualified homeowners.
|
- What's a "subsequent sale"? State law
allows the buyer of your taxes to buy your taxes in subsequent
years if the subsequent year's taxes are not paid within fifteen
days of the second property-tax payment due date and the sold
taxes remain unpaid. This means that the tax buyer can buy
your unpaid taxes in subsequent years before the annual tax
sale. The Will County Clerk Tax Redemption Department at
(815) 740-4619 or
the Treasurer's office at (815) 740-4675 can provide full
information.
|
- What deadlines do I need to know?
(1) The six-month intervals at which the interest you must pay
to buy back ("redeem") your taxes is added; (2) The deadline to avoid the
sale of subsequent year taxes; and (3) The expiration date of
the thirty month period after which the tax buyer
can petition for the deed to the property. Contact the
Will County Tax Redemption Department at (815) 740-4619 to learn the exact
deadline dates.
