Helpful information
You will receive only
one bill for your current property taxes, which are payable in two installments. Click here to see a sample tax bill.
To avoid duplicate
payments, ask your mortgage company if it pays your property tax bill.
New
Will County property owners should refer to their closing papers or contact
their attorney regarding payment of this property tax bill.
Avoid
late payments. 1.5% per month interest is assessed after each due date. Taxes
that remain unpaid will be published and sold with additional costs and
interest.
Verify your Permanent Index Number (PIN). Payment on the wrong PIN cannot
be refunded.
Payment details
Discover® Card payment forms are printed on the back of the insert
sent with your bill.
Please make all checks payable to "Will County Treasurer" and write your PIN on
your check. If you need a receipt other than your cancelled check, enclosed a
self-addressed, stamped envelope with your payment.
Checks returned by your bank for any reason will not be redeposited. Payment
will be removed, and a $25.00 fee will be assessed.
Duplicate tax bills, duplicate paid receipts, partial payment notices, and
prepayments are $2.00 each.
Duplicate payments will be refunded with the proper documentation. Proof
of payment and a release for both parties is required.

Publication Cost: An additional $10.00 charge will be collected after
October 15, 2007, on each unpaid bill to cover expense of delinquent tax publication and
certified mailing.
Tax
Sale Cost: If your taxes are sold costs of $104.00
(which includes $10.00 publication cost above) plus additional
interest will be added after the Annual Tax Sale.
Convenient ways to pay
Online using ACH withdrawal, Visa®,
or MasterCard® through October 28, 2007.
Internet payments
returned or rejected for any reason will be subject to a $25.00 fee.
At participating
banks in Will County from May 1, 2007 through June 4, 2007 and August 1,
2007 through September 4, 2007, using cash or check. When paying taxes at these
banks, you must present your payment stub or know your permanent index number

Discover® Card at (815) 740-4675, Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Through the drop box
outside the Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet, IL
using check or Discover® Card. The drop box is available 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. Please do not submit cash.
By mail using
check or Discover® Card to Will County Treasurer, 302 N. Chicago St.,
Joliet, IL 60432. Please do not mail cash. Mail your payment at least five days
prior to the due date since payments not postmarked by the due date will incur
1.5% per month interest.
Your cancelled check will serve as your
receipt. If you need a written receipt, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope
with your payment.
In person by
cash, check or Discover® Card at the Will County Treasurer, 302 N.
Chicago St., Joliet, IL, Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For faster service when
paying in person, please have your completed check with your bill or payment
stubs.
Always write your permanent index number (PIN) on your check and use the correct
payment stub.

determine the assessed valuations, the tax rates, nor the amount of taxes.

Your total tax is calculated
by multiplying the net equalized value times the tax rate.

Additional Information About the Treasurer's Office and Your Tax Bill
- The County
Treasurer:
--does not determine the assessed valuations, the tax rates, nor the amount of the
taxes.
--collects taxes for the schools, county, cities & villages, and all other taxing
districts.
--does not maintain the county real estate name and address file and therefore is not
responsible for errors made with respect to the correct names and addresses shown by the
county on real estate property tax bills.
- Protest information:
1. Payment under protest process has been revised. All tax payments
are now presumed to be protested.
2. If you wish to continue the protest process, a tax objection must
be filed with the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Will County Court House, 14 W. Jefferson
St., Joliet, IL 60432 within 75 days of the 2nd installment due date.
- Interest: for late payment is added at the rate
of 1.5% of the installment amount per month.
- Market value: Is the appraisal of your property at full cash
value. This appraisal is based on market value evidence including sales, income and/or
costs of your and comparable properties.
- Equalization factor: May be applied by the Supervisor of
Assessments.
- Assessed valuation: is determined by your Township Assessor.
- Multipliers: The Township Multiplier, imposed by the Board of
Review, is intended to achieve uniformity between Townships and classes of property. The
County Multiplier, imposed by the Illinois Department of Revenue, is intended to achieve
uniformity between counties by raising or lowering the aggregate assessment of all
non-farm property to 33 1/3% of market value.
- Exemptions: If you qualify, check your bill to be sure you are
receiving your Homestead and/or Senior Citizen and/or Senior Citizen Freeze Exemption(s).

- Property
description: Your tax bill indicates your Permanent
Index Number (PIN). This PIN replaces the legal description which identifies the property
on which you are paying taxes. This office is not responsible for payment on the wrong
property. Tax maps showing the property may be seen at the Office of the Treasurer,
Recorder, Township Assessors or Mapping and Platting. Check your current tax bill with
last year's, and if there is a difference in PIN numbers and property has not been divided
or consolidated, please contact the Mapping and Platting Office, 302 N. Chicago St.,

- Tax rates: Are based upon each tax district's Tax Levy. The
County Clerk's tax extension office calculates the tax rates and sends them to the taxing
districts for verification before any tax bills can be calculated. After the tax rates are
confirmed by the taxing districts the tax amounts are computed and bills printed. The tax
amount on each bill is determined by multiplying the tax rate by the net equalized

- Published
delinquent list: A list of tax delinquent properties
in Will County is published annually after the 2nd installment due date and prior to
application for Judgment.
- Back taxes forfeited or sold: The notation on your bill
indicates unpaid taxes for a previous year. The amount of delinquency is not included on

- Name changes: The name and address shown on your deed for the
purpose of tax billing automatically changes the County's record when deeds are recorded
and forwarded to the County's Mapping and Platting Department. Names may be changed by
sending a copy of your deed, a recording reference when required, or other documentation
