Documents indicating your parcel number may have fourteen or sixteen digits (the 14 digit parcel number simply omits the first two digits, or computer code). The last four numbers are usually zeros, unless the parcel is a condominium.
Sample Wheatland Township Parcel Number (16 digit):
07 - 01 - 05 - 100 - 005 - 0000
The Same Wheatland Township Parcel Number (14 digit):
01 - 05 - 100 - 005 - 0000
So, if you need to locate your township and you have a 16 digit parcel number in front of you, find the number in red on the map which matches the first two digits of your parcel number.
If you have a 14 digit parcel number, find the number in black on the map which matches the first two digits of your parcel number. Note that if you live in Reed, Custer, or Wesley township, you may need to look at your tax bill or call the Supervisor of Assessments at (815) 470-4648 to determine your township since these 3 townships share 2 township codes.
Numbers in red are the computer codes, numbers in black are the township codes.
