Illinois law requires public bodies to provide specific information about its office, budget, and how to obtain further information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140 et seq). This notice conforms to provisions set forth in the Act.

Description of the Office

The Treasurer is elected by the People of Will County and commissioned by the Governor to be the county’s Chief Financial Officer. The Treasurer, with the assistance of his professional staff, receives tax revenue and other public money, safely keeps those funds, and distributes that money pursuant to law.

The two principle functions of the office are treasurer and collector. As treasurer, the office deposits, invests and distributes all funds for the county. As collector, the office bills, collects, invests, and distributes property taxes. The duties and responsibilities of the office are set by Illinois law.

The office employs 21 full-time employees.

The Will County Board appropriated a $1,596,859 operating budget for FY2012-13.

Advisory Boards and Commissions

The Will County Treasurer currently has no board, commission, committee, or council that operates in an advisory capacity relative to the operation of the office. Illinois law does require, however, that the office submit monthly and annual reports to the Will County Executive, Will County Clerk, and the Will County Board.

How to Make a Request Under the Act

Any person can request to inspect public records as defined by the Act. All requests shall be made in writing and directed to the Office of the Treasurer. You may submit a request by personal delivery, mail, telefax, or other means available to the public, including oral requests for inspection or copying.
